Surgical billing that captures every procedure, correctly.

Surgical claims are high value and highly scrutinized. One wrong modifier or a visit billed inside the global period can mean a denial, or money left on the table.

MediFier's surgical coders work from your operative reports to code every procedure accurately and protect the revenue each case deserves.

The Challenge

Global periods and modifiers decide what you get paid.

Most surgical procedures include a global period of 0, 10 or 90 days, during which related visits aren't separately payable. Unrelated care, staged procedures and complications each need the right modifier to be paid.

Multiple procedures, bilateral cases and assistant surgeons add more rules. We read every operative note and apply them correctly, every time.

FAQs

Surgery questions, answered

How do you handle visits during the global period?

We track each patient's global period. Related post-op visits aren't billed, while unrelated visits and procedures are billed with modifiers 24, 79 or others as appropriate.

Do you code from the operative report?

Always. We code from the signed operative note, and we query the surgeon when the documentation doesn't fully support the procedure performed.

Can you bill for assistant surgeons?

Yes. We bill assistant surgeon services with the correct modifiers and check payer rules on which procedures allow an assistant.

Do you handle surgical pre-authorizations?

Yes. We obtain and document pre-certifications before the surgery date to prevent avoidable denials.
